Weekend Tasks 17th – 19th May

Task PR Weekend Guide May

The weather may not be on our side but there are plenty of fun things happening around the city this May weekend to keep us occupied. Here is just some of what Team Task are doing/ seeing and reccomending over the next few days…

1. Staying in for the TV event of the year (debatable) – It’s a marmite topic, but love or hate, there is no avoiding the Eurovision Song Contest this weekend. House parties and getting together with friends to cheer/ mock the artists is the preferred option in the office but there are also various fun Eurovision parties around the city including this one at Bunga Bunga hosted by Katrina and the Waves.

2. DINING OUT with a view – Based on the 32nd Floor, new restaurant Oblix, is now open at The Shard. From the same creative minds as popular haunts Roka and Zuma, this eatery offers a New York’s inspired rotisserie and grill, a wood-fired oven for breads and pizzas and London’s first interactive ‘sommelier station’ for wine buffs.

3. Finally watching the most anticipated FILM of the year, ‘The Great Gatsby’ – after what has felt like the longest wait in history, Baz Luhrmann’s epic is finally here and it’s all anyone can talk about. Check times and screenings here

4. VISITING Museums at Night - If you have friends or family visiting and are looking for an alternative outing, why not tour some of the top London Museums after hours? See a list of the options here.

5. SOCIALISING 1920s style with Harrods – Yes it’s Gatsby fever at the moment but this weekend is your last chance to visit the Gatsby inspired pop up cocktail bar at Harrods. Cocktail demonstrations will take place throughout the day and bespoke cocktails will be available to buy.

6. Joining in the all female RUN ‘We Own the Night’ – this Saturday a few of the Team task are taking on the Nike and Elle 10k running event which sees 7000 women running through the night complete with DJ’s, photobooths and lights. It’s too late to sign up but you can cheer us on, the event starts at 8pm on Saturday at Victoria Park.

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend! Follow us on Twitter and Instagram to see next weeks weekend suggestions.

Behind The Tasks – Visiting Deakin & Francis…

As part of a new ‘Behind the Tasks’ feature here at Task HQ, each week we are asking a different member of the Task Team to reveal all about life within the agency and give you an insight into the day to day aspects of working in Fashion PR. This week, Senior Account Executive Helena, took a trip to the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter for a factory visit with Deakin & Francis. She shares her experience here:

Task PR visit Deakin & Francis

By Helena Abela

I didn’t need much persuasion when the call came from our new jewellery brand Deakin & Francis, offering a visit to their 200 year old workshops in Birmingham. Despite that fact it was a 2 1/2 hour train journey to the Midlands, I’m always eager to learn more about the brands I look after and one of the best ways to engross yourself in a brand is to see what they do and how they work first hand. Plus who can resist the chance to be surrounded by beautifully crafted jewellery and all things shiny?

Once I arrived at the Jewellery Quarter, I was shown around the brands various workshops, eagerly taking notes and countless photographs. As one of the country’s oldest jewellery labels, Deakin & Francis still pride themselves on using traditional methods to produce many of their pieces. The enamel is still hand painted by two lovely ladies, who also happened to be cousins, and the moulding of the jewellery is done by hand using special tools to shape the signet rings, cufflinks, and pendants.  The whole day was reminiscent of a school field trip, even complete with sandwiches for lunch. I was even privileged enough to be shown top secret designs and prototypes by James Deakin himself but unfortunately I’m sworn to secrecy so you will have to wait a bit longer to see those!

You can shop the Deakin & Francis collection and find out more about the brand on their website.

Thanks to the team at Deakin & Francis for such an interesting day.

This new pop up restaurant in East London offers any sweet tooths their ultimate meal; three courses of desserts! Only open alternating weekends in May, book now for your chance to sample it.

Working With Katie Rowland…

We are so please to announce our new client to you, the fabulous jewellery designer Katie Rowland. Winner of the ‘New Jewellery Designer of the Year’ award at 2011′s UK Jewellery awards and now once again shortlisted for ‘Jewellery designer of the Year’ at the 2013 awards, Katie Rowland is certainly one to watch.

Katie designs luxury jewellery which is predominantely inspired by powerful women in history and mythology and is known for only using precious and visually breathtaking materials. Her current SS13 collection takes it’s inspiration from Ishtar, Babylonian goddess of fertility, love and war, as famed for her raw sensuality and prowess over men as she was for her litany of weapons, leading her to be named the ‘Queen of Attack.’

Sound interesting? Take a look at the exclusive SS13 fashion film which accompanies the collection and shop the pieces on the website.

Wool House featuring Johnstons of Elgin

Wool House exhibition Task PR

Seeing as we seem to be caught in a neverending Winter at the moment, you may be looking for something which can warm your cockles this weekend and we have the perfect antidote to the cold. Head over to Somerset House to take in the Wool House exhibition which is full of all things warm, cosy and wooly (funnily enough).

Upon entering your feet immediately touch upon a thick woolen carpet and your eyes meet with a giant woolen bear which dominates the corner of the room. You are led through what may be the most stylish house you could ever dream of, made almost entirely from wool. Complete with cosy fireplaces, fluffy armchairs, a designer woolen wardrobe to die for and entire rooms designed from different woolen fabrics. There are even knitting and weaving workshops should you feel inspired to get involved yourself.

Being one of the oldest woolen mills in the UK, Johnstons of Elgin naturally have a large presence at the exhibition, which is all in aid of the Campaign for Wool. The exhibition features many of their scarves, tweed suits and fabrics within the fashion area, sitting alongside brands such as Vivienne Westwood, Christopher Raeburn and Giles Deacon.

The exhibition runs until March the 24th in the West Wing of Somerset House, so this weekend is your last chance to take a look. For more information visit the website and to view more photos from our visit take a look at our Facebook Page.

Christopher Waller Fashion Film…

Filmed at the Hilton Double Tree in Tower Bridge, this amazing fashion film released by designer brand Christopher Waller is definitely our fashion fix for this week. Showcasing all of the gorgeous pieces from his latest SS13 collection, the film leads us through the story of a young actress seeking refuge from the media in the calm surroundings of the Hotel. the venue was chosen because of the strong architecural nature of its public spaces which fit really well with the graphic lines of the collection and due to its iconic position overlooking many of London’s key landmarks.

Maurice Lacroix Break Records…

Maurice Lacroix Magellan Strait Task PRAnother year and another world record breaking event for luxury watch brand Maurice Lacroix. You may remember the fantastic ‘The French Job’ project which the brand put on back in Summer of last year, which saw them working with acclaimed freediver Sebastien Murat as he attempted to break the world record for the deepest free dive. Well now less than a year later and Maurice Lacroix have yet again proved their love for extreme sports by teaming up with two kite-boarders as they set out to break another world record.

Brothers Geza and André Scholtz successfully negotiated the 560 km long Strait of Magellan (which lies between the southernmost tip of South America and the island of Tierra del Fuego) on kiteboards, setting a world record and taking the sport of kiteboarding into a new dimension.

With its icy water temperatures, roaring winds and poor visibility, the strait is regarded as one of the most difficult and dangerous navigation routes. The passage demanded full commitment from the entire team. A record achievement in terms of sporting endurance, bringing with it the reward of a place in history as the “Maurice Lacroix Strait of Magellan Expedition”.

To coincide with the event, Maurice Lacroix have launched a new all Silver model of their Pontos S sports watch which is available to buy in Harrods.

Dannii Minogue Wears ASH!

Dannii Minogue Wears ASH

Are you as excited about the next season of Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model as we are? We got a sneak peek of the filming yesterday and spotted new judge Dannii Minogue wearing a pair of ASH ‘Virgin’ Trainers.

Dannii and the model finalists from series nine performed an impromptu version of the Youtube phenomenon ‘Harlem Shake’ during a break from filming and Dannii herself tweeted her ‘Shoe of the Day’ after falling in love with the ASH style.

Take a look at the video below and be sure to check out the series when it airs.

Are scrunchies making a comeback?

Return of the scrunchie Task PR

In this week’s Stylist magazine,  we read an interesting article about the revival of the scrunchie. We all remember them, whether fondly or not, and the prospect of a return to the trend threw up different opinions in the office. From the 80′s side do to the school ponytail and alice band everyone’s memories were different yet just as vivid. For #throwbackthursday this week we thought we would try out the trend and see whether a scrunchie comeback could cut it as the next big fashion accessory!

Now we just need to track down one of those hairbands with our names on… What do you think? Are scrunchies a do or a don’t?

Team Task are all wearing scrunchies from Angelica London, available at Westfield White City.
