Gloriously British: Hand & Lock an eternal Royal affair

Looking back at more than 250 years of premium British craftsmanship brand , Hand & Lock prides itself in providing embellishment services to top European design houses, the Royal Armed Forces, Savile Row and to the Royal Family.

Hand & Lock weaves into a global narrative of Queens and Kings, including the more contemporary years, hand-embroidering 139 meters of Princess Diana’s Veil with 20,000 sequins and oyster pearls on the dress and matching bolero. The embellished dress was first auctioned by Christie’s in 1997, and now after 40 years, will be displayed at her Royal Highness former home Kensington Palace in a special exhibition that is due to be opened to the public in June.

This is not the first time that heritage brand Hand & Lock has had the privilege to produce embroidery for the Royal Family, their long lasting relationship has shown its presence numerous times. Including the Royal Barge during Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, as well as the brands work on the uniforms of Her Majesty’s Bodyguard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms.

Recognising the work, that the brand continues to produces, Hand & Lock has been granted the honour of a Royal Warrant by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. One of the most recent fashion moments created by Hand & Lock was the embroidered silk robe they gifted Princess Beatrice for her wedding in 2020. Hand & Lock’s team continues to protect and preserve the timeless craft, with showcasing the traditional skills of embroidery, and banging the drum for quality British craftsmanship.
