THE CAPITAL OF THE NETHERLANDS AND HOME TO ALL OF THE CANALS AND BICYCLES YOU COULD DREAM OF…
We’re kicking off week two of #TaskTravels with a trip to Amsterdam! The capital of The Netherlands and a hub of culturally and historically significant buildings, Amsterdam was the recent travel destination of Jenny Jones, Task PR Account Manager.
Rent a bike to join the Dutch locals in touring the city and its canals, see the work of Dutch Masters in the Van Gogh Museum or the Rijksmuseum and devour stroopwafels whilst sipping a beer.
From bars and burgers, to art and architecture – this city offers everything. Not to be missed is Anne Frank’s house. The now famous family’s hiding place during WWII, the ‘Secret Annex’ embodies the time in which it was occupied, with posters remaining on the walls long after their owner has left. A bookshelf that was used to hide the secret door, has remained untouched and bares witness to the events of the time. Thoughts from Anne’s personal diary, photographs and film clips bring her story to life, telling of her extraordinary reality for the two years that her family were in hiding.
After immersing yourself in the historical significance of the place, head to the nearby square and visit the Royal Palace. The Rijksmuseum is close by so after a peer at paintings and saunter along to the Amsterdam sign- if you don’t get a photograph in front of it, did you even go to Amsterdam?
If you’re looking for a pre-supper tipple, Junior Account Director Jenny recommends the Bierkoning – a modern brewery next to a windmill producing organic blonde and dark beers, that also run short tours for those who love going #BTS. For a full list of recommendations, check out below!
